Different industries require specific label materials.
For example, frozen products need cold-resistant adhesives, while beverage labels must be moisture-resistant.
We’ll help you choose the most suitable material — simply fill in the enquiry form and specify where the label will be used and whether you prefer a matte, glossy, or transparent finish.
Label materials
When choosing a label material, it’s important to consider print quality, durability, surface compatibility, and environmental conditions. Labels should not only look good aesthetically, but also perform reliably in their intended environment.
There are many different types of label materials, but they can be grouped into nine main categories, each designed for specific applications.
- Shipping and logistics labels
- Price tags and barcodes
- Office and retail labelling
Coated paper has a smoother and more polished surface than uncoated alternatives.
It can be semi-gloss or high-gloss, making it ideal for high-quality product labels that require vivid colours and sharp print detail.
- Retail product labels
- Pharmaceutical and cosmetic packaging
- Marketing and branding labels
- Warning and safety labels
- Promotional and discount stickers
- Inventory and warehouse labels
- Water- and weather-resistant labels
- Chemical-resistant and industrial labels
- Food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical packaging
- Eco-conscious brands and sustainable packaging
- Compostable product labels
- Retail and food labelling with sustainability claims
These labels protect against tampering, unauthorised opening, and counterfeiting.
Once removed, they leave visible residue or a security pattern, making it impossible to reuse the label.
- Pharmaceutical and medical packaging
- Electronics and high-value products
- Warranty seals and authenticity labels
- Automotive and industrial applications
- High-temperature and chemical-resistant uses
- Outdoor labels requiring UV and weather resistance
- Wine, beer and spirits labels
- Luxury cosmetics and perfumes
- Gourmet food packaging
- Wine, spirits, and gourmet food labels
- Luxury product packaging (perfumes, cosmetics, jewellery)
- Gift and decorative stickers
Types of label adhesives
There are many different types of label adhesives, each designed for specific applications.
However, they can generally be divided into twelve main categories, based on how they interact with surfaces, their durability, and the environmental conditions they are exposed to.
Understanding these categories helps you choose the most suitable adhesive for your labelling needs — whether it’s for temporary use, extreme environments, food packaging, or high-security applications.
- Retail price labels
- Temporary product labels
- Promotional stickers
- Product packaging
- Shipping labels
- Barcode labels
- Textured and uneven surfaces
- HDPE or PP containers
- Harsh outdoor or temperature-exposed labels
- Reusable packaging systems
- PET bottle recycling
- Food trays and beverage containers
Standard adhesives can lose their properties in cold or frozen environments.
Freezer adhesives are specially formulated to maintain adhesion even at low temperatures, making them essential for food, pharmaceutical, and laboratory labelling.
- Frozen food packaging
- Medical and pharmaceutical labels
- Cold-chain logistics and storage
- Food labels on plastic, paper, or glass
- Bakery, meat, and dairy product packaging
- Pharmaceutical labels for medicine packaging
- Wet wipe packaging
- Food packaging with resealable openings
- Medical packaging requiring repeated access
- Eco-friendly food packaging
- Compostable labels on biodegradable products
- Sustainable labels for cosmetics and organic goods
- Harsh outdoor conditions (UV exposure, moisture)
- Automotive and industrial equipment labels
- Chemical containers and hazardous material labelling
- Pharmaceutical packaging
- High-value electronics
- Warranty seals and security labels
Label liners
The label liner (also known as the release liner or backing paper) is the base material that holds the label in place until it is applied.
It is coated with a special release layer, allowing the label to be easily removed before application.
Choosing the right liner is essential to ensure smooth label release, reduce waste, and maintain compatibility with various printing and application methods.
However, not all adhesives and label materials can be used with every type of liner.
The liner must be carefully selected to guarantee optimal performance — some adhesives may require a stronger release surface, while delicate label materials may be better suited to softer or more flexible liners.
